2011 Monthly Report

2010 Monthly Reports

2009 Monthly Report

April 28 (3pm) - The first weigh-ins from the bite out of Barnegat Inlet . . . Joe Cunningham with a 24.5 lb,  John Miller with a 29 lb & Bill Newhart with a 23.5 lb - all on white bunker spoons in fifty feet of water (photos).

><))))))*>

April 28 (11am) -  Blowfish in Manahawkin Bay & blackfish on the north and south jetties in Barnegat Inlet are the two prodigious fisheries at the moment.  Also a few stripers trolled up on bunker spoons a mile and half to two miles northeast of Barnegat Inlet this morning.

><))))))*>

April 27 (5pm) - Kapt. Krankie reporting in from the Ship Bottom surf ... skates & doggies, and lots of 'em.  Garbagefish.com in their glory !

><))))))*>

April 25 - Still catching ten to fifteen pound bass on the LBI surf, the majority are still being caught during the last hour of the incoming tide.  Stripers being caught on both bunker & surf clam.  Blowfish still swimming around the Causeway vicinity, how nice, you can only catch two winter flounder but you can take all the blowfish you want.  Also some bass starting to be taken in the dark hours on eels in Double Creek channel.

><))))))*>

April 24 - To put it mildly, things are quiet... except for the flags flying.

><))))))*>

April 21 (12pm) - Kapt. Krankie  called in from the North Beach surf ... nothing but skates on bunker & clam.

><))))))*>

April 21(11am) - A weigh-in from the Ship Bottom surf ... Steve Hippe (photo) beached a fifteen pound / thirty-five inch striper this morning on surf clam.  He also caught a short, both at the top of the tide.  He said after the tide changed the water temp dropped and no more hits.  Also a call in of some bass trolled up in sixty-five feet of water off the Ferris Wheel (Seaside).

><))))))*>

April 20 (4:00pm) - More reports of Blowfish on the surf, but also a few being caught in the bay around & under the Causeway bridges.  On the striper scene, calls coming in with a lot of skunks today unfortunately.  If the bass bite is slow, might want to try the north side of the north jetty along Barnegat Inlet for some good tautog action.  If tomorrow's forecast holds true, this is a nice spot in a south wind to feed some crabs to the rocks.  Also, the Garden State south reef site has been pretty good on tog.

><))))))*>

April 20 (8:00am) -  The mass of bass have moved up the line ... reports north of the Ferris Wheel and out two to three miles.  Some bass also being taken off the LBI surf mostly on bunker.

><))))))*>

April 16 - Another great day catching stripers yesterday for the boats south of Barnegat Inlet out in the fifty foot depth, both on the troll & jigging.  Some more bluefish being reported mixed in with the bass.  Phil Natale (photo) boated his limit along with a blue & released several others mainly on metal and white bucktails.

><))))))*>

April 14 (3pm) - An epic bite all morning south of Barnegat Inlet down to Harvey Cedars in fifty feet of water.  Many boats limited out early and continued with catch & release mainly jigging metal and shad bodies.  Bass ranged from twelve to thirty pounds.  Julie Ruth & Cara Slingerland (photos) limited out with their bonus tags boating six bass all on Ava jigs.  Awesome catch Gals !!

><))))))*>

April 12 (9:15am) -  A call in from Kapt. Krankie from the Beach Haven surf ... a thirty-four inch striper taken on a bunker chunk.

><))))))*>

April 11 (11:30am) -  A call from a couple guys trolling umbrella rigs up by the Ferris Wheel off Seaside ... twelve to the boat already.

><))))))*>

April 11 (8am) - Well, I guess March warmth brings April winds ... looks like another couple days of hard NW.  If you can get out into the ocean there are pods of bass spread out from Beach Haven to Seaside Park, just gets a little uncomfortable if you venture east over a mile with this wind.  Stripers have been trolled with white bunker spoons, Stretch 30's and white shad body umbrellas & jigged with metal or white swim shads ... lately the key is WHITE !  Reports from people fishing the surf is that it looks like chocolate milk.  Graveling Point down in Mystic Isles has some fish being put up on its bank including stripers, blues, drum & perch.

><))))))*>

April 8 (8:45am) - First calls coming in ... bass in forty-five feet right out of Barnegat Inlet on the jig.  Also a huge gannet bird play off Harvey Cedars, but no report of fish yet.

><))))))*>

April 8 (7am) - HAPPY EASTER !  A couple boats going out this morning to look for their Easter Stripers.  These guys & gals are following the reports and heading north out of Barnegat Inlet.  Hopefully more positive reports today.  White perch fishing back in Beach Haven West has heated up again.  Winter flounder fishing ... well, luckily the bag limit is only two for those that are looking to "limit out".

><))))))*>

April 7 - Receiving calls & text messages of more stripers being trolled up north of Barnegat Inlet in thirty to forty feet of water.  The bite seemed to start around 9:30 this morning and is still going on.  White bunker spoons working the best today.

><))))))*>

April 6 - A bunch of customers coming in this afternoon reporting a great troll bite today north of Barnegat Inlet in forty-five to fifty feet of water.  Most guys are reloading lures or replacing last years old (rusty) hooks.  Stripers were taken on shad body umbrella rigs, Stretch 30's (Red & White was hot today) & a few on bunker spoons (both White & Chartreuse).  Fish ranged from twelve to twenty-five pounds.

><))))))*>

April 4 - Good reports of stripers jigged up a couple miles north of Barnegat Inlet on metal.

><))))))*>

April 2 - A very windy forecast for the next two days.  Gale force winds out of the NW for today & almost as strong for tomorrow.  The best fishing seems to be coming from the Great Bay area.  A lot of stripers & black drum are being caught from boats, but most are beaching their boats and bank fishing from several sedge banks with surf clams & bloodworms.  Did not hear much from the LBI surf over the weekend.  The few that took the walk down the dunes reported plenty of skates.

><))))))*>

April 1 - Snow is in the forecast today.  A great new product out ... Freeze-Dried Bunker.  Better than sun-ripened toted crab bait, almost as good as vacuum packed fresh frozen (never understood that one, is it fresh or frozen), not as good as live, but better than nothing.  Comes with free towel to mop up tears from crying of "No Fresh".   Gas at the pump was down to $2.00 a gallon this morning & no more ocean scallops, the Barnegat Light fleet caught'em all up.
