REPORTS

MARCH 2010 | APRIL 2010 | MAY 2010 | JUNE 2010
June 27 -- Congratulations to Sue Kaiser on landing a 256 lb big eye tuna aboard Capt. Bob Beideman's "FISH TRAP". Received some good yellow fin reports from the Wilmington Canyon. Yellow fin up to 50 pounds on the troll. Bay fluking reports the same, just a lot of boat traffic especially on the weekend. Some fluke caught out in forty feet of water off Island Beach and the Barnegat & Little Egg reef sites. Still some one pound bluefish in the Holgate area & crabbing in Manahawkin & Barnegat bays is fabulous. (06:00 at)

June 26 -- Fluke fishing on the LBI surf has turned on, especially at both ends. A lot of reports of fluke in the suds being caught on white bucktails tipped with squid, spearing & some of the Gulp baits (swim mullet & shrimps). Bay fluking is tremendous ... just not a lot of keepers. Double Creek channel has been very good, thus all the congestion the past couple days. Oyster Creek channel also producing some flatties. As far as offshore, a bunch of people heading out to the Lobster Claw and vicinity today ... hopefully some good blue fin reports later.

June 22 -- Fluke fishing is status quo with a few more keepers coming out of the Middle Grounds. Not much out along the LBI beach front ... a few bunker but no sign of bass, only some smooth doggies and a nice surprise ... a couple spanish mackerel. They'll hit small metal on a fast retrieve or trolling a "0" or "00" Clark spoon, preferably the one with the red bead.

June 20 -- HAPPY FATHER'S DAY !! The word(s) of the day yesterday on the offshore scene was "monster blues" and not the tuna. Fortunately for us in the tackle market, some lures need to be re-rigged or replaced. A good fluke morning again in Barnegat bay near the 42 buoy. Also a few keeper fluke being pulled out of the Middle Grounds (Little Egg Harbor) near the 6 & 8 cans.

June 19 -- Congrats to my daughter Samantha and the rest of the SRHS class of 2010 !! Fluke fishing has been very good. Barnegat bay started to produce some nice keepers between the "BI" buoy & buoy 42 in seven to eight feet. Minnows, spearing & Gulp baits have been very effective. Also at 42 a couple weakfish have been taken on shedder crab. Great Bay is loaded with fluke, just not to many keepers ... almost a 20:1 throwback to keeper ratio. Still some one to two pound blues around Beach Haven inlet. As far as striper action ... all arrows point north. Yesterday a tremendous bite occurred off Asbury Park at 4pm. The main body of both bunker & bass are up there ... unfortunately for us off LBI.

June 16 -- Sorry for lack of reports ... a little computer issue. Anyway, a bass bite going on in south Beach Haven into Holgate on bunker. A couple boats on it with some nice fish being boated. Fluke fishing has been terrific in Great Bay & some secluded spots in Little Egg Harbor, just very few keepers ... a lot of 15 to 17 inch flatties. Minnows, spearing & some of the Gulp baits working the best. Crabbing has been great! (06:45 at)

June 5 -- A very muggy & humid start today with a light wind out of the SW. A little haze over LBI from the humidity, not the dense fog we had earlier in the week. Fluke reports have been very consistent with an 8:1 throwback to keeper ratio in Little Egg Harbor & Great Bay. Minnows, spearing & swimming mullet Gulp (white or chartreuse) have been working the best. For the crabbers ... crabbing is excellent at the moment, it really turned on the last couple of days. June 4 -- Got a report of some 1-3lb bluefish in and around the Beach Haven inlet this morning.(06:38 pb) Marty Krinic (photo) beached a 42.5 pound striper off the Beach Haven surf on fresh bunker. Very good reports of bunker along Island Beach and up to Seaside with some bass being caught in them. Rich Fallon (photo) snagged a bunker and hooked up with a 47.5 pound striper just north of Barnegat Light along IBSP. Mark Slovkovsky (photo)trolled up a couple bass in the thirties on Stretch 25's off of Seaside Park late today.

June 3 -- A very foggy start to today, wind out of the south at 10 with less than a quarter mile visibility. The surf has been producing some twenty to thirty pound bass on bunker, mainly on the south end of LBI from Brant Beach down to Holgate. Anyone looking for some inshore shark fun, there are some Thresher sharks down off Brigantine within a mile off the beach.

June 1 -- Will Esarey (photo) boated an eighty-five pound black drum fishing in Delaware Bay with Capt. Bob Meimbresse on "Down Deep" out of Cape May on Monday. Sounds of things, a lot of fluke caught over the weekend, but not to many made it to the dinner table. Middle Grounds in Little Egg Harbor sounds like it produced the most keepers along with some good fluke fishing in Great Bay. Reports from Double Creek channel were a lot of flounder, but all throwbacks.
